03.11.2007 Kyiv Defeat Khimik
BC Kyiv won their 5th straight Superleague contest, having passed the first serious test of the season, defeating Khimik Yuzhnyi 74:68.
The home side started the game very aggressively on defense and this, combined with Marco Maravic’s perfect shooting, allowed them to grab a 38:30 lead by halftime.
Kyiv’s captain Artur Drozdov missed most of the second half due to pain in his thigh, the visitors took advantage of that. However, they only managed to get close to Kyiv during the last minutes, with no chance left to try to steal the win.
“Today’s win is very important for us”, Kyiv’s coach Tomo Mahoric said. “We are playing in the ULEB Cup on Tuesday and it’s always nice to go into a game like that after a win. I would like to emphasize how my team performed on defense today, especially during the first three quarters”.
“We played against an opponent with great teamwork”, Khimik’s coach Dmytro Bazelevskyi said. “We have not played against a team this good this year yet. What’s important is that the we outrebounded Kyiv and if not for some unnecessary mistakes, the results could have been different”.
