08.02.2008  Kyiv Back in Cup Final

BC Kyiv will face Azovmash Mariupol in a rematch of last year’s Cup of Ukraine Final.

Kyiv defeated hosts Sumykhimprom 75:70 behind 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals from Pooh Jeter.

Sumy zoned up on defense at the start of the game and Kyiv had little difficulty scoring, grabbing a 14:8 lead.

The home side managed to even up the game and the score was 22:20 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The pace of the game did not change during the second quarter and only Jeter’s buzzer-beater gave his team a 5-point cushion at halftime. Kyiv managed to extend their lead to 10 points after 3 quarters but relaxed, allowing Sumy not only to catch up, but also go ahead 62:60.

Kyiv’s experience helped the team bounce back and take control of the game. Sumy’s trey with less than a minute to go in the 4th quarter made the score 73:70 but that was as close as the hosts could get.

Josh Davis had 14 points and 6 rebounds for Kyiv.

Rostislav Kryvich scored 16 for Sumy.

The final is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
