10.02.2008 Kyiv Fall Short in Cup Final
Azovmash Mariupol reclaimed the Cup of Ukraine, having defeated BC Kyiv 73:63 to close out the Final 4 in Sumy on Sunday.
Mariupol started the game with an 11:4 run, behind two triples from Rodney Buford and Robert Archibald’s dominance in the paint.
Kyiv improved their defense to finish the quarter down by one. Artur Drozdov, Pooh Jeter and Josh Davis played a key role in the chase. They, however, did not manage to score a field goal during 9 minutes of the second quarter, allowing Azovmash to knock themselves down with yet another run – this time 21:2. Drozdov once again tried to pull his team back into the game, making the score 41:28 at the half.
Mariupol did not lose focus in the second half, not allowing Kyiv to come back. Led by Gerrod Henderson’s 18 points the controlled the game till the final buzzer.
BC Kyiv’s captain Artur Drozdov had an impressive effort with 26 points, 4 rebounds and 6 steals.
