22.03.2008 Both Kyiv teams are victorious against Cherkassy.
Despite a guaranteed first place finish in the domestic Superleague and a bunch of starter nursing their injuries, BC Kyiv stormed past visiting Cherkaski Mavpy 88:61.
Kyiv’s Manu Markoishvili sparked his team’s 9:0 run, extending the lead to double digits at 14:4. He had 8 points during the stretch. Cherkassy’s John Edwards and Pavlo Revsin got the Mavpy back in the game, reducing the gap to just 1. This served as a wake up call for the hosts, who ended the quarter 23:17.
Kyiv rallied behind balanced performance in the second quarter to create a comfortable 12-piont cushion entering half-time.
The home side continued to dominate on the floor in the second half, holding on to the win, their 21st straight.
Markoishvili scored a game-high 24 points, Marco Maravic and Artur Drozdov contributed with 14 and 12 points respectively, adding 8 rebounds apiece.
Cherkassy’s Pavlo Revsin and John Edwards shared team-best 11 points.
Meanwhile, Kyiv’s farm squad also beat their Cherkassy opponents 92:63.
Kyiv’s Andrei Novikov had a team-high 20 points, Ruslan Otverchenko added 18 and 13 rebounds, Andrei Lebedintsev contributed with 16 and 8 steals.
“It was hard for us to recover from the two losses we suffered in the last two games”, said after the game Kyiv Farm Team’s head coach Vitaliy Cherniy. “We had some problems with rebounding in the losses, so the 44 boards we grabbed tonight showed we fixed the issue. We also tried to increase the pace of the game and this led to a number of fast breaks”.
