02.04.2008 Kyiv’s juniors ready for Top 6 tourney
BC Kyiv’s farm team is getting ready for the crucial stage two of the league play, which will start on April 7 in Kyiv, following this weekend’s All Star Game.
Kyiv, currently seeded second behind Dnipro’s Farm team will battle Lviv, Mykolaiv, Azovmash, Khimik and Dnipro during the six days of the tournament.
Vitaliy Cherniy, Kyiv’s head coach talked to his team’s official web site about the upcoming games:
“Our performance during the regular season varied from game to game and at times, despite a lot of achievements, I was disappointed with my players. This, however, is normal, as their careers are just starting and it’s important to keep setting new goals for their development.
“Though it’s common to show inconsistent performance at this age, some players have been playing at a very high level all season. Denys Lukashov, Roman Dmytrenko and Andrei Novikov were key to our success, Ruslan Otverchenko had some great games, but also some really mediocre ones.
“The key to succeeding in the top 6 competition will be teamwork. Earlier in the season some players did not trust themselves during the clutch moments of the game and were looking for our leaders to finish the plays. But as the time went on they started to feel more confident and now anyone feels good with the ball in their hands. This is very important for us”.
