19.04.2008 Kyiv take 2:0 series lead against Dnipro
BC Kyiv took a 2:0 series lead against Dnipro after a 73:67 home win.
Second game of the series was not nearly as easy as the first one for Kyiv. Dnipro was a good matchup for the Superleague’s top team, coming out mentally ready for the challenge.
Dnipro’s Artem Shvets opened the game up with a triple, Grigoriy Khizhiak’s free-throw and Maxim Vilkhovetskiy’s three and two baskets from Khizhiak made it 5:11 midway through the quarter.
Kyiv tried made every effort to catch up with their opponents, but to no avail at least in the first period. Dnipro finished it up by 4 – 16:20.
Artur Drozdov hit from downtown to tie the game at 22. He added a steal and a dunk to put Kyiv up by 2 three minutes into the second time frame. The home side started to run away from Dnipro, but Maxim Vilkhovetsky and Khizhian kept their team within reach – 38:34 at the half.
The game was close till the final minutes. Vilkhovetskiy drained a three to make the score 67:65. Kyiv’s Marcus Faison responded with a layup and the visitors were forced to foul, allowing the Kyiv team to put the series on the line in the next matchup.
Kyiv’s Artur Drozdov had a game-high 19 points. Dnipro’s Grigori Khizhniak had 17 and 9 rebounds.
Game 3 will be on Tuesday.
