03.05.2008  Kyiv Take 2:0 Series Lead Against Lviv

BC Kyiv took another step towards the 2008 Superleague Finals, having defeated Politekhnika-Galychyna Lviv 104:72 in game 2 of the Semifinal Series.

Unlike in game 1, Kyiv did not let the opposition have any hopes even in the early minutes of the 1st quarter, capturing a 12:3 lead midway through the timeframe, mainly due to the efforts of Ryan Stack and Marko Maravic. Lviv’s Dmytro Kuzmin and Juric Umbrasko, who scored two threes to close out the quarter, made Kyiv’s lead look less catastrophic – 28:14.

Tomo Mahoric completely shifted his lineup in the second quarter and the new group of players demonstrated how long Kyiv’s bench is. Although Lviv managed to trim the lead to 7, Manuchar Markoishvili hit two treys to extinguish the fire. Mahoric, despite it, returned the starters, who made the score 51:37 at halftime.

Lviv had a 6:0 run early in the 3rd quarter and cut the margin to 11. Pooh Jeter replied with a 6-point surge to end the stretch up by 13.

Ryan Stack was phenomenal in the final frame, firing at will from the long range. He made 6 of 8 shots from downtown in the game, finishing the contest with 22 points. The Kyiv side knocked the visitors out with a 34:15 quarter, stopping just one win away from the Finals.

Josh Davis added 16 points for Kyiv.

Lviv’s Volodymyr Gurtoviy, who recovered from the injury that benched him for almost the entire game 1, score team-high 16 points in the losing effort.

Kyiv will have a chance to sweep the series in Lviv on May 7.
