04.05.2008 Kyiv Juniors Through to EYBL Final 4
BC Kyiv’s farm team advanced into the European Youth Basketball League Final 4 after finishing the Yuzhne stage with a perfect record.
Kyiv bested ASK Riga 84:64 in the last game of the tourney. Denys Lukashov scored24 points, Andrei Lebedintsev and Ruslan Otverchenko contributed with 20 and 17 points respectively.
“It was a hard and nervous game”, - said Kyiv’s head coach Vitaliy Cherniy. “Both teams’ players knew we would be facing each other in the Final 4, therefore nobody wanted to reveal all the secrets. Still, each team badly wanted to win and that is why the game was so even in the first quarter. I put Lukashov in the game in the second and he sparked our run.
“Nevertheless, Riga is a very good team and they kept fighting. We led by just 9 with 2 minutes to go in the contest, but concentrated on the defensive aspect and this allowed us to finish up by 20”.
Kyiv will now face Khimki on their court in the semifinal on May 9.
“I know it will be hard to play against the home-crowd’s favorites, but I am sure Khimki is a team we should defeat”, - summarized Cherniy.
During the course of Stage 3 Kyiv also took care of Barons 108:66, Dynamo Minsk 96:57 and Dynamo Moscow with 17-point win.
