BC Kyiv advanced into the 2008 Superleague Finals after sweeping the series against Politekhnika-Galychyna Lviv with a 67:89 win in game 3.
Lviv managed to stay close to the visitors for the first three quarters, trailing by just 6 points prior to the final interval. Kyiv, however, threw a heavy blow at their opponents, winning the quarter 22:6.
The game started with a 9:2 Lviv run after they scored three straight triples. Kyiv replied by increasing the pressure on defense, totally controlling all defensive rebounds and running the floor after Politekhnika’s misses. They managed 3 and-ones highlighted by Artur Drozdov’s fantastic dunk and finished the 1st quarter up by 7.
Lviv’s Volodymyr Gurtovyi got his team back in the game tying the score at 28, after which Kyiv struck 14:2. The hosts recovered quickly, taking advantage of the other side’s turnovers, outscoring them 7:0 to cut the lead to 38:44 at the end of first half.
Smart player rotation helped Kyiv’s coach Tomo Mahoric keep his starters fresh for the finals stretch, which proved to be the game-winning strategy.
Volodymyr Gurtovyi had a game-high 19 points for Politekhnika-Galychyna.
Ryan Stack scored 16 for Kyiv; Artur Drozdov and Marcus Faison added 15 apiece.
Azovmash Mariupol, meanwhile, took care of Khimik Yuzhniy in game 3 with the series deadlocked at 1, claiming a 75:89 victory that puts them up 2:1.
Jarrius Jackson finished the contest with 24 points in the losing effort for Khimik. Mariupol’s Tomas Delininkaitis had team-best 17.
