12.10.2008  Both Kyiv teams defeat Mykolaiv

BC Kyiv continued the 2008/2009 Superleague season with a 104:68 road win over MBC Mykolaiv behind a balanced offensive team effort.

Clay Tucker opened the game up with a three, but Michal Hlebowicki tied the score with a triple of his own. Both sides matched each other evenly as the scoreboard was deadlocked at 11 midway through the first quarter.

The visitors got into a two-point lead at the end of the first frame, but managed to extend it to 11 after winning the second quarter 21:12. Reserve forward Oleg Saltovets scored 7 points on a 3 for 3 shooting during the stretch.

Mykolaiv reduced Kyiv’s lead to 7 points three minutes into the second half, but the guests replied with a 29:4 run to end the quarter, which knocked the home side out. Kyiv scored 15 of 20 field goals during the third stanza, entering the final frame ahead – 80:48.

Sasa Obradovic gave his motivated young Ukrainians plenty of playing time in the 4th, who outplayed their Mykolaiv counterparts 24:20 to put an exclamation mark in the blowout.

Kenan Bajramovic finished the contest with a double-double: 18 points and 10 rebounds. Manu Markoishvili added 17 points, draining five out of seven threes. Scoonie Penn, Slava Kravtsov and Brent Wright were all in double digits with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Mykolaiv’s Ivan Gilevych had 19 points in the loss. Young raising start Serhiy Gladyr had 18 on a 6/11 three-point performance.

“I think no one will question the fact that Kyiv is much stronger than Mykolaiv in all aspects”, said Obradovic after the game. “Our task was to win each quarter and I can say I am not quite happy with the way we played in the first half. But we came out more aggressive after the halftime break, got more active and decided the game way before it was over”.

Meanwhile, Kyiv’s farm team handled their Mykolaiv opponents an 87:62 win.

Four Kyiv players scored 10 or more points topped by Denys Lukashov’s 22 and Roman Virastyuk’s 20. Mykolaiv’s Vadym Norenko had 27 but got little support from his teammates.
