BC Kyiv had no difficulty overcoming BC Pulsar Rivne in a 73:53 Saturday encounter.
The home side got in control of the game early on. Having gained a 6-point lead at 9:2, Kyiv was holding on to it though the entire first quarter. Pulsar’s attempts to reduce it were answered to by Markoishvili’s three to make it 16:10 and by Alex Scales, who made it 19:13 as the period time expired.
A 6:0 run by Kyiv, capped by Brent Wright’s deuce, opened up a 12-point lead for the hosts. Dalibor Djapa’s three reduced the margin to five, but that was as close at the visitors could get. The Wolves restored the 12-point advantage by the time they entered the half-time break.
Kyiv missed just two two-point attempts in the third frame. They also performed superbly on the defensive end, which allowed them to get a very comfortable 20-point lead with 10 minutes to go.
The Ukrainian Superleague vice-champions managed to hold on to the win, tying the final quarter at 14.
Manuchar Markoishvili scored a game-high 18 points, shooting 8 for 10 from the field. Kyiv’s newcomer Jovo Stanojevic added 14 points and 7 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action.
Pulsar’s Dmitro Briantsev had 13 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.
Kyiv’s farm team also easily cruised past Pulsar 99:70. After a slow start to the game and a lost first quarter, they took things under control and blew their opponents out.
Denys Lukashov had 22 for Kyiv, shooting 9 for 12. Maxym Sandul added 18 points with just one missed shot.
Pulsar’s Vadym Koval had 23 in the losing effort.
