28.03.2009 BC Kyiv stumble in Donetsk despite strong Markoishvili performance
BC Kyiv have suffered their fourth Superleague loss of the season – a 75:68 setback to BC Donetsk. The visitors had a confident start to the game due to their trade-mark offence and the ability to run the floor. A 16:26 Kyiv lead midway through the second frame served as a wake-up call for Donetsk though and they quickly tied the score at 32. The visitors still managed to finish the first half up by four, gaining a much needed psychological advantage.
An even third quarter guaranteed a nervous ending and more experienced Donetsk players took full advantage of it. At first Kyiv committed a shot-clock violation with a chance to tie the game with a minute to go in the final frame, on the next possession for Donetsk the home side got two straight offensive rebounds and extended their lead. Kyiv failed on the offensive end and was called for a flagrant foul that determined the outcome of the game.
With this loss Kyiv split season games with Donetsk at 2 apiece.
Manuchar Markoishvili had a game-high 21 points and five assists for Kyiv.
Chris Owens was once again productive for Donetsk with 20 points and nine rebounds.
