13.04.2009 BC Kyiv’s farm team gets Bronze
BC Kyiv’s farm team finished their division in the third place with 27 wins and 8 losses behind Khimik Yuzhne and BC Donetsk. They repeated their last year’s accomplishment and came close to improving the feat, but the fact that Denys Lukashov, Olexander Lipoviy and Ruslan Otverchenko were called up to help the main team hurt their chances of catching up with their main rivals.
We talked to the team’s head coach Vitaliy Cherniy as the season drew to a close and this is what he had to say about it:
“Of course every coach wants his team to improve their final standing in every other season and I had every reason to believe we had a good shot at improving our last year’s result. We looked great most of the season and it was not just the stats some of my players demonstrated, but the level of their maturity and the level of their game.
It got much harder for me to chase the season goal after some of my players were called up, but, after all, my job is not to win trophies, but to prepare athletes for the men’s team and I think the fact that some of the youngsters joined Sasa Obradovic’s squad and quickly adapted there shows I do it well. They still have long ways to go, but they finally have everything to achieve the new heights – an excellent coach, experienced partners and the ability to improve their game not just during the practices but also during high-level games”.
